Biography DARK GOD 1990 - 2019
Dark God is an Occult Deathrash Metal
band formed on early 90s in Calama city (Chile) under
the name “Putrefaction”. On these years the
line-up was: Alex (guitars), Rodrigo Bravo (bass guitar)
and Claudio Candia (R.I.P.) (drums), playing at the first
metal concert organized in Calama and in a proper place:
the vulcanization and auto repair shop at Greece Street,
side by side with other prominent band in the city. Then,
Giovanni Rivera joined on vocals and second guitars (some
time later he takes part in the renowed band “Demencia”).
Some months later, Rodrigo, Giovanni and Claudio left
the band which it was from Alex (supposedly) and they
form Dark God. Rodrigo is the lead guitar and Gustavo
Veliz joins to the band. On the late 90s, Dark God performs
in the first events with prominent bands from the North
of Chile, as for example: Invert Cross, Scrotum Death,
Doom, Perversity Terror, Anthropinism, Metal Morfosis,
Cadaveric, Show Death, Bruma, among others. Then, the
line-up would be: Giovanni Rivera (vocals, second guitar),
Rodrigo Bravo (lead guitar), Gustavo Veliz (bass guitar)
and Claudio Candia (Drums, choirs).
They worked hard because they were discriminated
due to their age (15 years old average), but some time
later their work was recognized and they gained more fans.

Their major infuences are: Autopsy, Morbid Angel, Kreator,
Dismember, Dark Angel, the old Bathory, Death, among others;
a very aggressive Death Thrash with a little touch of
Black Metal. Some months later they composed their first
songs which were recorded in their first “Rehearsal
tape” at the end of 1991. It was distributed by
letter in an amount of 100 copies, but nowadays it was
re-edited by “Only Death is Real Prod” Records
(2015) and a third re-edition by “Lapis Lazuli Records”.
It contains original songs as: Attack of Demon’s,
Dark God, Perdition of the Life, a couple of covers and
a Live bonus track. Their lyrics talked about paganism,
calamities, anti religion, etc.
On 1992 they were on a little tour to Tocopilla, Chuquicamata,
Antofagasta and Arica with the aproval of the “aggressor
headbangers” from those years. They also took part
of some National and international magazines from Brazil,
Paraguay, Argentina and Colombia.
Between 1992 and 1993 they were ready to record their
first oficial demo in Santiago but, there were some internal
troubles and Gustavo finally left the band and, as a consequence,
they lose the summer of 93 to record and travel. It was
very harmful to the band but, some time later an old friend
of the band was joined: Carlos Dìaz (“ensalá
de muela”) from Slow Death (Calama) took the bass
guitar. This line-up was finally disolved at late 1994
in a farewell show by the side of Slow Death (Calama)
and Voltage (Iquique), which it was organized by a legendary
“banger”: Oscar Carreño.
One of the most important factors of the separation
on those years, were the universitary studies, which Carlos
and Claudio stood in Calama, Rodrigo went to Santiago
and Giovanni to Iquique. There were some attempts to join
the band again. On 1995, they had a show with the original
bassist Gustavo in Calama organized by Felix (el Ñaja),
who nowadays organize very important concerts in Coquimbo
(he brought to Kreator and Destruction). On that show,
played as a guest band: Vulgar (a band that some time
later will be very important in terms of tendencies in
the North on middle 90s).
It was thought that Dark God would be reunited in order
to record at least the oficial demo, but it wasn’t
understanding among the members. Now, we can say: what
about the other members nowadays?
Claudio Candia. He carried on with other projects and
he was finally playing with Bruma, a band from Calama.
Unfortunately, he couldn’t get over from a strong
depresión because his wife and his unborn child
died from leukemia, so he took his own life on April 28,
1998. He was found in his bedroom.
From the whole registers that existed until then, we
found his rehearsal tape 1991 and some remarkable videos
which you might find in some website. So we have a historical
review of this important band of True Metal from Calama
and the North of Chile, where their first rehearsals with
accoustic guitars and an improvised drum with kitchen
pans aquired more metal spirit in their blood. The fact
of having get a real instrument was a real excitement.
More than a banger probably will feel identified with
this fact.

On 2015, there were a reunión among
3 original members, but one of them, Rodrigo Bravo, had
a problem with one of his hands due to an accident, so
he couldn’t play the guitar from then on. So, Giovanni
and Gustavo became the heads of the band (born again from
hell). Some time later, 2 remarkable musicians join to
the band: Jonathan Tapia (former Demencia and Forsaken)

Then, they went on a “mini tour” in Calama,
Antofagasta, Iquique, Lima (Perú) with Malevolent
Creation. Thank to this, some old bangers could attent
to the concerts and reliving old times.

to some concerts, so he was replaced by Leonardo Rivera
(former Demencia). Now the line up is actualized:

On February 2017, after a tour in Chile, Peru and Bolivia,
the band could play half a tour due to internal problems,
so many dates were cancelled and finally Jonathan and
Leonardo were fired.
On March 2017, Gustavo Veliz continues on the drums and
Giovanni takes charge of the whole guitars. On the bass
guitar, an old friend was joined: Eduardo Almonacid, who
took part of some concerts on 2016 and the 2017.
